Wafer production in Japan hit record level last year

Silicon wafer production in Japan in 2010 was 8,688 tons, having increased 37% from the 2009 level, reported the Committee of High-purity Silicon, a wafer industry organization affiliated with the Japan Society of Newer Metals (JSNM). Both domestic sales and exports were brisk. Sales in Japan increased 33% to 4,332 tons and exports rose 46% to 4,633tons thanks to surging demand from memory manufacturers and foundries in Asia, according to the committee.
